First-Year Students: Other Admission Options
There are other doorways of opportunity available when applying to Cornell University. Take some time and look at what's available:
Early Admission
If you'd like to apply to college after only 3 years in high school, Cornell will give your application serious consideration. You should contact the director of admissions in the college(s) that interest you at the university to obtain her or his "OK" to apply, before filling out the application.
Deferred Enrollment
Thinking about taking a year off between high school and college? Once you're accepted to Cornell, it's possible to delay matriculation for a year or more. Here's how: Accept our offer of admission by the stated deadline, then send a letter explaining why you're requesting deferred entrance and when you expect to begin your studies at Cornell. If your deferral is granted (and most are), you're guaranteed a place in a specified first-year class.
Opportunities for Underrepresented and Disadvantaged Students
- Through NY's Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and Higher
Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), Cornell offers a network
of services, including a pre-freshman summer program, for underrepresented
or economically disadvantaged students. If you're a NY state resident
and want to be considered for either program, check the box on the
Cornell Supplement.
- Since 1963, the committee on Special Educational Projects (COSEP)
has supported underrepresented students with a comprehensive array
of programs.
