International Students: Financial Aid
Citizenship and eligibility:
Citizens and permanent residents of the United States and Canada, and citizens of Mexico are eligible for consideration for the financial aid and financing options described on the Financial Aid Web site. Cornell University maintains only a very limited program of financial assistance for international students who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States, Canada, or Mexico. Those who do receive funds have exceptional credentials and demonstrate financial need. This information is not intended to discourage you from applying, but to give you a realistic understanding of the nuances for receiving financial aid to attend Cornell.
If you're applying for financial aid as a permanent resident of the United States, you'll need to submit both the College Scholarship Service (CSS) PROFILE and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the processors indicated on those forms. (Follow the instructions that apply to U.S. citizens.) You also must send acceptable proof of United States permanent residence: a photocopy of form I-551 or your Alien Registration Receipt Card ("green card"), or a photocopy of the passport page indicating approval of application of I-551. Send this documentation to Cornell's Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment (FASE) by October 14 if you're applying for the spring term (transfer students only), or by February 10 if you're applying for the fall term.
Students who have applied for financial aid and are in the process of applying for United States permanent-resident status must submit acceptable documentation of permanent residence to Cornell's Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment (FASE) by your admission acceptance deposit date (May 1 for regular decision; January 7 for early decision), to be considered for aid for the fall semester of the same year. Documentation should include a copy of both sides of your Alien Registration Receipt Card (Form I-551), or a copy of your passport or departure record (I-94), with appropriate endorsements, to verify your status. Candidates with refugee status or who have been granted asylum should contact the International Students and Scholars Office (607 255-5243).
Nonimmigrant students (except Canadians and Mexicans, who follow the same procedures as United States citizens) do not need to submit the CSS PROFILE or FAFSA. If you feel you qualify for aid as a nonimmigrant student, submit only Cornell's International Financial Aid Form, included in the International Supplement
.
