HOW TO APPLY Cornell Faces Cornell Campus

Transfer Students: Visiting Student/2nd Bachelor's

What are some of my other options as a transfer student? What exactly is a "visiting" student? Can I get a second bachelor's degree? The answers to these questions can be found below.

Visiting Student Status

You're a visiting student if:

  • you are a student from another institution studying at Cornell for 1-2 semesters before returning to your "home" institution or
  • you already hold a bachelor's degree and are seeking admission to prepare for graduate study or a career.

If you are accepted as a visiting student, you'll need to take at least 12 credits each semester, with one-half to two-thirds of your work in the college to which you've applied. You can enroll as a visiting student for a maximum of two semesters. Visiting students are not eligible to earn a degree; nor are they eligible for financial aid. If you are interested in applying to be a visiting student, please contact the Cornell undergraduate college in which you are interested.

Second Bachelor's Degree

Cornell does not enroll students for a second bachelor's degree, with the following exceptions: to study interior design, dietetics (with nutritional sciences), or apparel design. Financial assistance for second-degree candidates in interior design or nutrition is limited. Individuals who already have a bachelor's degree and wish to pursue graduate work in other academic disciplines should contact the Graduate School (607) 255-5816 or visit their Web site at www.gradschool.cornell.edu or the appropriate academic department for advice about extramural courses or graduate studies.
