CAMPUS VISIT Cornell Faces Cornell Campus

Red Carpet Society Overnight Hosting Program

Overnight Hosting Expectations

We value and appreciate opportunities for prospective students to experience Cornell by visiting the campus. We also hope you will take part in fun and safe activities while you're here. The following points should clarify what you should expect, as well as what we expect from you during your overnight hosting stay.

When you visit the campus overnight, we expect you to:

  • Have your signed Medical Authorization form pdf with you at all times.
  • Comply with all university, state and federal rules including refraining from illegal or risky behavior.
  • Be responsible for bringing personal items (i.e. sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries) related to your visit.
  • Be responsible for all expenses including transportation, food, and souvenirs.
  • Let your host know what you'd like to do AND where you will be so you can plan your time effectively.
  • Respect your host's personal property and time (especially sleep time). This also applies to staff, faculty, students, and other visitors whom you may encounter during your visit.
  • Stay on campus! While being hosted, prospective students are not allowed to go to fraternities, sororities, private apartments, or places outside the boundaries of the main campus, with the exception of businesses located in Collegetown *.
  • Anticipate exploring the campus on your own while making the most of your time at Cornell!

In turn, your host should:

  • Honor all commitments made to you, especially with regard to meeting times and places.
  • Provide you with his or her contact information as well as emergency contact information.
  • Answer your questions honestly; introduce you to other students, staff, or faculty; and refer you to people, places, and classes of interest even if he or she cannot accompany you.
  • Comply with all university, state and federal rules; including refraining from illegal or risky behavior.
  • Make every effort to provide clean and safe accommodations for you.
  • Not take you off campus, nor anywhere in a student's private vehicle.
  • Help you explore the campus (even if he or she cannot accompany you) and make the most of your time at Cornell!

* Collegetown is a business and residential district located near the southern end of Cornell University. If time allows, please feel free to visit stores, shops, restaurants, and university residence halls in Collegetown. However, all private apartments and cooperatives, as well as all fraternities, and sororities in Collegetown and around the campus, are off limits to prospective students.
