I will be getting a master's degree in the study of law at the University of Southern California.
CLAP (Cornell Latino Association of Pre-laws), SWIB (Society of Women in Business), EWIL (Empowering Women in Law), PAD (Phi Alpha Delta Prelaw Fraternity), P3 (Pre-Professional Programs), The wardrobe (operations assistant), A&S Ambassador, CUPI (Cornell University Parole Initiative), and ACAU (Association of Central Americans Unidos).
I worked at the Sage Management library for about two years, and it became one of my favorite study spaces; it's very calm, and there aren't many undergrads there. It is also located close to the Arts Quad, where all my classes are. I also enjoyed doing work at the Cornell Law School library, where everyone is very quiet, which forces me to stay focused.
My favorite thing about Cornell is the great campus we have and the people who make the place feel like home. Especially growing up in the city, I was never used to this much nature, and having hikes around campus has been so nice to have, especially in my four years of college.
I would say Libe Slope for sunsets and Beebe Lake to take a walk. It is so peaceful, and we are so lucky to have such a beautiful campus like ours.
Arts & Sciences was the best college for me because of all the different majors that you can explore. Especially being undecided about what I wanted to do, I tried Psychology and Economics before landing on American Studies and Government. I wasn't glued to one degree from the beginning, which also allowed me to take various distributions to be a well-rounded student.
My academic passion is anything in the law. I really find it to be very interesting that my academic interests make a difference in the world.
I go to the librarian's reference desk a lot. It was through one of my classes that we had a lecture with a librarian, and they came to share information and answer questions about the resources we have on campus. Through them, I found out that you can go to them for help with research projects.
One piece of advice that I wish someone had told me is that you will find your community wherever you end up. Each institution you apply to brings a lot to the table, and you will also blossom and make a lot of contributions to the community.
My favorite Cornell memory would have to be any slope memory. It's such a good time to have friends sit together on a blanket, talk about dreams and goals, or just do homework outside. The sunsets are so nice, and it's peaceful seeing everyone on campus come together to sit on the slope.
I joined a lot of organizations on campus that helped me find my people. Whether it was prelaw organizations or my classes, I always made a friend along the way.
I chose Cornell because of the great community it has. Also, being from the city, I knew that traveling back home wouldn't be that big of a hassle. I am always excited to see the campus and how different it is compared to back home.
I really like Sage Atrium; it has a create-your-own bowl station. I also enjoy Terrace on Wednesday and Friday when they have orange chicken bowls. If the lines are a little long, it's totally worth the wait. For dining halls, I always went to Appel when I was on North Campus. You can never go wrong with their taco bowl.
I enjoy the local hikes or eating dinner in the Commons. One of my personal faves is Thompson and Bleeker. I also like the small-town living and events that we have, like Apple Fest and the Chili Cookoff.
The impact of what I can possibly do one day is what inspires me. I have always grown up in a household that focuses on when you have, you give and when you learn, you teach. This mentality has always been very important to me especially now that I have gained so many resources.
I really enjoyed Intro to Latino Studies with Professor Maria Cristina Garcia. It was fall first semester, and it was interesting to take a course that combined Latin American studies with a focus on American Studies. It was really interesting to learn about Central America and U.S. territories, and having Professor Maria Cristina Garcia share her stories about Cuba made the class extra special.
I studied abroad my Junior Spring doing the DIS study abroad program in Scandinavia in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was the scariest thing I had done in my college years, but the most rewarding experience. My program was really hands-on with all of the classes that we had, and there was a day once a week without classes where we would do field trips to better understand the topics from our classes.
The Cornell experience is unique because of the location we are in. It teaches you to find new hobbies outside of your comfort zone, whether that be hiking or taking on snowboarding in the winter; there's always something to do. Cornell is a very special place; it brings people from all around the world to come to school and get their education, but also to be involved and make friends.
