How beautiful the campus is, and the many study/work areas that have a view. And of course, all the wonderful people I've met and the support system available to me.
CALS offers relevant courses in animal science, offers me so many opportunities for hands-on experience, and encourages me to explore different fields in animal science and veterinary medicine.
I knew, coming to Cornell, that I wanted to become a veterinarian and take classes more specific to my interests. Coming from the city, I have never handled cows or horses, and I always thought I wanted to go into small animal medicine, but my time at Cornell has allowed me to learn so much about myself. I also discovered my love for microbiology, and I am now pursuing a minor in infectious disease.
When I take writing-focused classes, I really like going to the Knight Writing Center for peer review. Resources are always made known in newsletters, and professors usually provide information on course tutors/help.
My advice is to stay true to who you are. A lot of the time, when applying, we are so focused on curating this "ideal student" that we forget that schools choose you because they think you are a good fit for their programs. The only way they will know this is if you are genuine.
Mostly through classes and clubs/organizations, as we usually have common interests. Don't be afraid to sit next to someone on the first day of class; you never know how good friends you will become!
Cornell is truly a place where you can pursue your interests but also discover new ones. It is a place that fosters educational freedom, and it is a place where like-minded people can share new ideas.
I came to visit during admitted students weekend. I went on a tour and also went to the CALS hub. When I spoke to both the student tour guide and the CALS ambassadors, their honesty and perspectives made me realize Cornell was the place for me (which is why I also decided to become an ambassador). I am a first-generation student, and I felt Cornell had the support to help me adjust.
I am a pescatarian, and all dining halls and cafes on campus have so many vegetarian and vegan options. My favorite sandwich is the portobello panini from Big Red Barn. Off-campus restaurants are also super diverse in cuisine (I tried Ethiopian food for the first time in Ithaca).
I love going to the Ithaca Farmers Market! The food is amazing there; there are so many beautiful pieces crafted by local artists, and it is a must-do!
My first Slope Day. It was such a beautiful day, and I spent it with a new friend (whom I had made earlier in the year through Block and Bridle club). We have made it a tradition to go together every year.
My family, my peers, and my mentors. Their compassion and integrity remind me to be a better person every day.
It is so hard to pick a favorite class. In terms of the most interesting, Animal Reproduction. But Animal Physiology is definitely top tier. Even though it was information-dense, the professors made it so digestible, and I loved going to lecture and learning something new (my parents can attest to that, given I would share all I learned when I FaceTimed them).
I hope to attend vet school! I want to be a veterinarian, and my interest lies in sports medicine and rehabilitation.
I like the paths to classes that blend into the hiking trails, especially the bridges. I like stopping to just take in nature when I'm walking to early-morning classes.
