I am an Applied and Engineering Physics major because I believe in the power of applying math, physics, and computer science in engineering as an innovative tool for meaningful service to humanity. My major is very multidisciplinary because it covers a lot of the same material as mechanical and electrical engineering degrees, while also ensuring a solid foundation in the natural sciences, and we learn through system integration.
I really appreciate the campus librarians, the engineering tutors, and the AEW courses. Everything can be found on the college of engineering website!
One piece of advice I would tell a prospective student is "just keep swimming!" At times, everything can seem a little tough, but your community and team are there to help you succeed. You got this!
Classes, clubs, hall meetings, getting totally lost and accidentally wandering halfway across North Campus into a different dorm!
I love breakfast at Morrison (egg, potatoes, bacon, and fruit smoothies!), lunch on West Campus (literally everything is divine), snacks at Risley (seaweed salad and poke bowls, anyone?), and dinner at Appel (the grill is fantastic).
Late night and early morning runs to College Town Bagels!
The nights that I've spent with friends. Listening to music and having dance parties at the program houses is always a good time!

I chose Cornell because the philosophy of "Any person, any study" really encourages students to pursue education. It's not just about pursuing a career, but also about bettering themselves through the joy of academic exploration. For me, Cornell was unique in that it offered engineering to the depth and breadth needed to support an AEP major while also having a well-established and exploratory humanities program.
I really loved Physics 2216: Special Relativity (taught by Professor Flanagan) and my First-Year Writing Seminar: Medieval Wyrma (taught by Cagney Kelshaw). There is nothing more fun than nerding out with niche topics and learning from professors who are excited and passionate about their subjects, even first thing in the morning!
As the "Any person, any study" motto will tell you, it is an essential part of being a Cornellian to pursue education not just to get a career, but also to better yourself through the joy of academic exploration. Despite being an engineering physicist, I love studying Greco-Roman cultures and mythologies, and hope to minor in Classical Civilizations through the College of Arts and Sciences. I know a civil engineer who is taking business courses, a Hotelie who thrives in theater productions, and an entomologist who enjoys debate. The magic of Cornell is that it combines a highly focused technical program with a broad yet in-depth humanities program that distinguishes itself internationally.
I hope to go to graduate school, earn my PhD/ScD, and head into industry!
I love studying in the A.D. White Library because it reminds me of the Boston Athenaeum.

Duffield Engineering is a perfect fit for me because I believe that having the freedom to pursue courses across mechanical, electrical, and other disciplines offers a more holistic perspective on engineering. Interdisciplinarity is exciting!
