An Alum and Parent Perspective
Blog Post
As alumni, my husband and I are beyond thrilled that our oldest child, Lexi, chose to apply early decision and was accepted to the College of Arts and Sciences as a member of the Class of 2027! It was a dream come true for all of us.
We have watched Lexi design her own Cornell experience over the past three years. She has thrived in areas we hadn't expected or experienced ourselves as students.
Engaged Parent Community
As Cornell parents, we feel grateful to have regular communications from campus through the Office of Parent and Family Programs. We are kept apprised of everything on campus and have enjoyed amazing family weekend programming. Locally, we've met other Cornell parents at the annual New Student Send-off events and are enjoying the local Cornell Club activities and community.
Courses beyond her major and college...
Lexi is an Economics major with a business minor. She has taken some amazing courses in both the College of Arts and Sciences and the Dyson School of Business. Her elective choices have been extremely interesting; in fact, she is even taking American Sign Language! Cornell has supported her interest in International Economics, which has taken her on two study abroad experiences at the London School of Economics and ICEE/UPF in Barcelona. She is also a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon Economics Honor Society and enjoys the engagement with other students and professors in her department. Even with a major and a minor in different colleges, she has the support to explore courses beyond her core requirements.
Athletics at Cornell
Lexi is a member of the Cornell Women's Polo team, the Big Red Sports Network, and supports the Football Team as a student manager. She tries never to miss a hockey game, and we also love attending during family weekend! As a parent, I am in awe of how the Cornell community supports students to find balance with their academics.
Extracurriculars and Career Planning
In addition to her academic and athletic pursuits, Lexi enjoys her involvement with her sorority and her business club. Last semester, she participated in a trek to NYC to introduce the Society for Women in Business to various corporations and support networking and community. There are so many clubs and organizations to choose from. Cornell Career Services supports students' engagement with organizations for skill development and alumni networking. Cornellians help Cornellians. Our alumni network is strong and vast!
