From First Acceptance to Lasting Home: My Cornell Story
Blog Post
When I first found out that Cornell would become my collegiate home, I was beyond excited. I remember imagining everything that was ahead of me: exploring campus, meeting new people, diving into classes, and discovering opportunities I had never even considered before. I knew Cornell would open doors, but I didn’t yet realize just how much it would shape who I am.
Now, as a senior graduating this weekend, I’ve been reflecting on my time here. These four years have been more meaningful than I could have ever imagined. Cornell has truly become my happy place: one that will always be part of my story and my heart.
The Little Moments That Shaped My Experience
Some of my favorite memories come from the everyday moments that made campus life special. Cheering at hockey games in Lynah Rink with friends, taking physical education classes, like fencing and figure skating (I’ve taken five overall!), and finding time to relax on the Slope while enjoying the Ithaca area.
Cornell is full of traditions and experiences that bring students together. Over time, the campus stops feeling overwhelming and begins to feel like home. The friends you meet, the routines you build, and the communities you join all become part of your Cornell story.
Even when academics feel challenging, it’s important to take a step back and remember how special it is to be here. Being a Cornellian is truly an honor. I’ve learned to approach each challenge with gratitude, knowing that every class, conversation, and opportunity is part of an experience that not everyone gets to have. Being a Cornellian is something I will always be proud and appreciative of.
A Transformative Semester Abroad
One of the most impactful parts of my Cornell experience was studying abroad in Scotland. Living and learning in a different country pushed me outside my comfort zone in the best way possible. It gave me the chance to reflect, grow, and explore questions about who I am and what I want from the future.
Studying abroad didn’t just expand my academic perspective, it helped me discover new passions and interests. It reminded me that learning doesn’t only happen in classrooms. Sometimes it happens through new cultures, conversations, and experiences you never expected to have.
Carrying Cornell Forward
Cornell has also given me the space to grow into my independence. Living here allowed me to navigate life as an adult: making decisions, trying new things, and occasionally making mistakes along the way. Cornell encourages students to take risks, learn from setbacks, and keep moving forward without fear of failure.
Cornell has taught me that there is a whole world out there waiting for us to engage with it and make an impact. Each of us leaves our own unique mark on the world, and sometimes all it takes is the courage to try something new.
As my chapter at Cornell comes to an end, I feel incredibly grateful for everything this university has given me: knowledge, friendships, confidence, and unforgettable memories. Even after graduation, it will always be a place I can return to. Cornell will always be a home of mine.
