My go-to campus resource is the Office of Academic Discovery and Impact, also known as OADI, which is located in the CCC building. It is one of my favorite spots on campus because it is a really relaxed place where you can sit, study, recharge between classes, or just have conversations with people. It is one of those places that feels welcoming the second you walk in. One thing I always tell people is to actually read the bulletin boards there. Most students rush out of buildings after class and never stop to look, but those walls are honestly full of opportunities. There are research positions, fellowships, campus programs, and sometimes even paid opportunities posted up there. If you take a few extra minutes to actually stop and read the posters, you might find something that changes your entire semester. It is kind of like a hidden opportunity board that a lot of people walk right past. Another resource people overlook is their professors. On the first day of class, many professors introduce themselves and talk about what research they are currently working on. If something they mention sparks your interest, send them an email and introduce yourself. Do not be afraid to cold email. A lot of opportunities start from simply being curious enough to reach out, and that is one of the easiest ways to start getting involved and making connections early on.
