I found my friends and community at Cornell by taking advantage of the first few days when nobody really knows anyone yet. Everyone is kind of in the same boat, so I tried to be outgoing and open to meeting people. Sometimes it was as simple as introducing myself to the person sitting next to me in class or starting a conversation before a lecture started. And honestly, one of the easiest ways to meet people is by going to the free food events around campus. You might show up for the snacks, but you could end up leaving with a few new friends.
