I found a lot of my friends and community through the places where I spent the most time and worked closely with others. One of those was my job at the Statler Hotel. Working there meant being part of a team where you interact with people regularly, solve problems together, and rely on one another during busy shifts. Over time, those shared experiences naturally turned into friendships. Air Force ROTC has also been a major source of community for me. Training together, holding each other accountable, and working toward the same goals creates a strong sense of camaraderie. There is a shared commitment and discipline that brings people together in a meaningful way. Beyond that, some of the simplest moments have led to great connections. Talking to people sitting next to you before class starts, forming study groups, or continuing conversations after a lecture often turns into lasting friendships. At a place like Cornell, many people are looking for the same thing: connection and community, and sometimes it starts with just introducing yourself.
