Since transferring to Cornell, I have not taken a large number of classes yet, but one that has stood out to me is CHEM 3580, Organic Chemistry II. What I enjoy about the course is that organic chemistry feels less like memorization and more like learning a language or even practicing an art. Each reaction mechanism has its own logic, and once you begin to understand how electrons move and how molecules interact and electrons move, you start to see patterns that make the chemistry come alive. What makes the class especially interesting is the problem-solving aspect. You are constantly thinking through why a reaction occurs, predicting products, and working through mechanisms step by step. There is something very satisfying about piecing those puzzles together. It has made me appreciate how elegant chemistry can be and how creativity and reasoning play a role in understanding complex molecular systems.
