Meet Claire
Claire seamlessly balances her academic pursuits with a rich array of extracurricular involvements as both a dedicated athlete and an admissions ambassador. Her enthusiasm for her economics major shines through as she delves into her classes and shares the value of the campus resources available to students.
What clubs/activities are you involved with on campus?
I play varsity field hockey and am part of Big Red Ambassadors, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and InReal Terms (Economics Society newsletter).
Why is the College of Arts & Sciences a great fit for you?
I didn't know what major I wanted when I first came to Cornell, and the College of Arts & Sciences offered so many different classes to take and explore to find my interests. A&S provided me with a well-rounded and holistic education, with experience on the quantitative and qualitative side of academia.
What is your academic passion?
I love how applicable economics is to so many different industries, opening the door for you to explore any interest. For instance, I am taking Economics in Sports and Economics of Consumer Law and Game Theory. These classes are so interesting and diverse.
What are your go-to campus resources? How did you discover them?
My go-to campus resources are the Economics Tutoring Center and the Stats Lab, which are free and accessible to all. The tutors are always so nice, and with my busy schedule, I can’t always make it to office hours. I found these resources through email notifications from my professors.

How did you find your friends and community at Cornell?
Being on a sports team helped me meet my teammates and become friends through that shared experience. Then, I met more friends through clubs and in classes.
Tell us about your favorite Cornell memory.
Slope Day! This end-of-spring-semester tradition of celebration is always so fun. Cornell students hang out all day before meeting on Libe Slope for an outdoor concert. Plus, the food and drinks at Slope Day are great.
What is your favorite class so far, and why?
My favorite class is Economics of Collective Bargaining in Sports. I enjoyed learning about the economics and statistics behind sports, and I enjoyed the class project, where we picked our baseball player and did an arbitration report.
Tell us about your favorite spot on campus or in Ithaca.
My favorite spot on campus is Trillium. My team and I always get breakfast there together after practice, and it is a great space to catch up and do work. Also, the food is fantastic, with customizable omelets and breakfast burritos. Or my favorite, the grand slam breakfast with eggs, bacon, toast, and home fries.
