Meet Hamid
Hamid, an aspiring computer scientist from Afghanistan, takes advantage of the many resources Cornell offers its students. He can be found relaxing on Libe Slope or studying in Uris Library and is grateful for the expansive academic possibilities he finds in the College of Arts & Sciences curriculum.
What clubs/activities are you involved with on campus?
I am a member of the Cornell Outing Club and the E-ship List.
Why is the College of Arts & Sciences a great fit for you?
The College of Arts & Sciences is a great fit because it gives me access to a broad range of classes to explore. Though I am majoring in Computer Science, I am also taking a Cognitive Science class which I find very interesting. The contents of the class fascinate me.
What are your go-to campus resources?
My favorite campus resources are the math support class, office hours, the tutoring class at the Robert Purcell Community Center, and Computer Science’s consulting hours. There are many ways to find support at Cornell University.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired when I think about the future I will build for myself with computer science.

What is your favorite class so far?
So far, my favorite class has been CS 1110. The professor was nice, and they helped me learn a considerable amount of coding.
What makes the Cornell experience unique?
Cornell is unique thanks to the people, faculty, communities, and mostly the engagement that Cornell provides for its students.
How did you find your friends and community at Cornell?
I found my community with the help of the Prepare program by the Office of Global Learning. Prepare is a free pre-orientation program for international first-year and transfer undergraduates. It introduces new students to important resources for international students and to new friends, well before Cornell's new student orientation. Afterward, I found more friends in my classes and especially in my residence hall.
Tell us about your favorite place to study.
My favorite study spots are in Uris Library and in my dorm room.
