Meet Sofia
Sofia loves that the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning’s small class sizes provide her with an intimate space to develop strong relationships with both peers and professors. Sofia pursues a comprehensive art education and finds growth both as an artist and an art historian. Ithaca’s beautiful natural surroundings provide a place to unplug, and one of her favorite memories is singing along to the music at Slope Day, Cornell’s yearly concert that celebrates the end of the spring semester.
What clubs/activities are you involved with on campus?
I am a member of the AAP Ambassadors and the Cornell University Diversity Admissions Ambassadors, a print room intern, and a security intern at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art on campus.
What is your favorite thing about Cornell?
My favorite thing about Cornell is its beautiful campus and view of Ithaca. Seeing such a beautiful view every time I walk to class keeps my head clear and keeps me feeling very grounded.
Why is the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning a great fit for you?
I love the small class sizes within the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. These small classes enable me to develop strong relationships with both my peers and my professors.
What is your academic passion?
I love studying fine art and art history at Cornell due to how many classes are offered. One semester, I took a print media art class while studying Greek art history, and the next semester, I took a painting class alongside a Southeast Asian art history class. My knowledge and experience as both an artist and an art historian feels well rounded, and I really appreciate having the opportunity to expose myself to such an array of subjects.
Where is your go-to place to eat on campus, and what is your favorite thing to order?
My go-to place for lunch on campus is Trillium, which has incredible quesadillas and burritos. Not only is the food delicious, but it's also a great place to hang out with friends and meet new people.

Tell us about your favorite thing to do in Ithaca.
My favorite thing to do in Ithaca is go on walks around Beebe Lake or at Buttermilk Falls State Park. It is incredibly therapeutic, and I am blown away by the beauty of the scenery every time.
Tell us about your favorite Cornell memory.
When asked about my favorite memory at Cornell, Slope Day immediately comes to mind. Singing along to amazing singers and bands while eating delicious food with my friends is the best way to celebrate the end of the school year.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I would like to pursue a master's in art history in the Northeast, and I hope to eventually obtain my Ph.D. and land a job as a curator in the Met, MoMA, or Tate Modern.
Tell us about your favorite place to study.
My favorite place to study is the Fine Arts Library. The architecture of the book stacks always fascinates me, and the big windows provide great scenery to look at when I'm writing my art statements or art history essays.
