Campus Resources: Student & Campus Life

Blog Post
The Office of Student & Campus Life (SCL) division leads the development of an inclusive, energetic environment that supports our diverse student body. SCL promotes student experiences through innovative programs that support academic and extracurricular growth. Some of the key initiatives currently shaping campus life include the following:
Empowering First-Generation and Low-Income Students
The SCL division provides extensive support services for first-generation and low-income students (FGLI) who need access to vital resources. The Cornell Food Pantry, Swipe Out Hunger initiative, Kessler Scholars Program, and Peer Navigator Program work together to support students' academic and personal development.
SCL's "Learning Where You Live"
The "Learning Where You Live" program provided by SCL allows students to combine academic studies with residential hall education. This initiative integrates academic and residential learning experiences. This one-credit course in residence halls allows students to learn various subjects through an informal learning program that builds stronger relationships between students and faculty.
Centers to Support Students
The Centers for Student Equity, Empowerment, and Belonging at Cornell support students through identity-based programs, resources, and inclusive community spaces. Each center promotes equity, empowerment, and belonging by fostering leadership, advocacy, and identity exploration. Areas include support for Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American (APIDA), Black, Latinx/e, LGBTQ+, first-generation, low-income, undocumented, gender-diverse, and spiritually diverse students. Students are encouraged to get involved through events, trainings, and campus visits. Together, The Centers help create a more just, connected, and inclusive student experience.
Illuminating Mental Health: "Light Up the Season”
The student led "Light Up the Season" project from Cornell Minds Matter illuminates Ho Plaza to address Ithaca's lengthy winter season. The project uses illuminated tree branches and pathway installations to fight seasonal affective disorder while building community spirit in cold weather conditions.
Opportunities for Leadership Development
SCL hosts a Leadership Workshop Series in which students can participate in in-person and virtual training sessions that teach students vital leadership abilities. The workshops provide instruction on organizational management and practical communication skills to help students develop personally and professionally.
In addition to workshops, SCL supports over 1200 student clubs and organizations and hosts various events on campus throughout the school year. The annual Slope Day celebration, which marks the end of classes, features live music and festivities to showcase the Cornell community spirit.
