My Typical Weekend as a College Student

Blog Post
As busy college students, weekends are a chance to rest and recharge for the week ahead. While each weekend looks slightly different, I personally try my best to prioritize spending time with friends and getting off campus.
Off-Campus Eateries
A popular weekend activity for my friends and I is going into the Ithaca or Collegetown communities to get food. Some personal favorites of ours are Fusia Bento Bar, in the heart of Collegetown, and Purity (they have delicious ice cream!) While Cornell dining lives up to its reputation, exploring Ithaca’s endless food options is a great weekend excursion. Collegetown Bagels, right off campus, is always packed full of Cornell students on weekend mornings. A personal favorite of mine, on weekends when I have more free time, is the Cat Cafe located in downtown Ithaca; it has the best coffee in town (in my opinion) and cats, the perfect combo!
Activities
The Farmers Market on Cayuga Lake is a Sunday morning must-do in the nicer weather! There's an assortment of vendors, with the crepe makers being a standout. The Cornell Cinema and Johnson Museum of Art are also great cultural activities available to students on campus. For those looking to venture further into Ithaca, Cinemapolis is a great option! Cornell also hosts many fun events over the weekend for students to attend. Last month my friends and I attended a stand-up show by SNL’s Colin Jost in the Statler!
Outdoor Activities
Here at Cornell, we are so lucky to be surrounded by beautiful nature. On weekends I love to take walks around Beebe Lake, right off of North Campus where freshmen dorms are located. I also enjoy strolling the Cornell Botanic Gardens with friends on sunny days; the gardens are a great place to bring your parents when they visit!
Study
The weekends aren’t only for fun though, so I do make the time to get ahead on my work for the upcoming week. I usually head over to Olin Library, either the stacks or the Kroch Asian Room, to get some work done. Libe Cafe, located in Olin, is open during the weekend, making it a very popular spot for students to caffeinate before locking in.
On-Campus Involvement
I also spend my weekends on my extracurriculars. I have chapter for my sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, on Sundays and a committee meeting for my pre-professional fraternity, Pi Lambda Sigma. My goal for the rest of the semester is to take advantage of the free yoga classes hosted at Cornell’s gyms!
