When applying as a transfer applicant, it's important to plan ahead. We recommend you review the required materials and coursework and familiarize yourself with Cornell. You’ll also want to clarify your academic and future goals so that you can clearly articulate your plans for transferring. Below are several resources that you may find helpful as you navigate the transfer application process.

Review Admissions and Major-Specific Requirements

Cornell is home to eight undergraduate colleges and schools, each with its own majors and focus; you'll want to identify the best academic and community fit for you. Each college or school has its own specific prerequisites, and some majors may have additional application requirements. Review the transfer requirements and timeline carefully to ensure you're on track and familiar with the required materials to complete your application.

We encourage prospective students to take advantage of virtual visit options and explore the campus from wherever you are. If you're in the area, schedule a campus visit to experience Cornell firsthand.  

Talk to Instructors About Recommendation Letters

Start early by reaching out to instructors at your current institution who can write strong, personalized letters of recommendation. Provide them with ample time and context to support your application effectively.

Draft Required Essays

Cornell requires transfer applicants to respond to college and school-specific writing supplement prompts. Begin drafting your responses early and tailor them to your intended major and the college or school you’re applying to. Be sure to explain why you're interested in transferring and how Cornell aligns with your academic and future goals.
