What is Cornell Career Services

Located right next to the Cornell Store is a castle-looking building you might’ve never noticed, called Barnes Hall. It’s home to Cornell Career Services, the central branch of career services here. While each individual college has their own career center of some kind, the central office offers resources to all students at Cornell, regardless of their major, interests, and career aspirations. As an Employer Relations Student Associate, I’m hoping to share some of the highlights of Cornell Career Services that any student in any study might find helpful to look into!

Utilizing the many resources offered

Among the most popular resources offered by the Career Services office is free resume review by Peer Career Coaches, who are student employees trained in resume review for any career goals. In addition to resumes, Peer Career Coaches can also look over cover letters, share networking tips, help with building LinkedIn and Handshake profiles, and assist with job and internship search. Having another pair of eyes look over resumes and cover letters when applying to jobs and internships is always a good idea, and I would recommend booking appointments ahead of time during peak recruiting season in order to schedule follow-up visits if needed!

On the second floor of Barnes Hall (where you might find me at the front desk!) is the Profile Picture Kiosk, a free photo booth where you can drop by at any time to get professional quality photos taken. The photos are sent immediately to your email, providing a convenient and quick way to get pictures taken for LinkedIn, headshots, etc. whenever you need them.

For students who need professional clothing for profile pictures, an upcoming interview, or any other formal occasion, The Wardrobe is a valuable and underrated resource you can take advantage of. The Wardrobe is a student-run organization that offers a free professional clothing rental service, where any student can rent clothing for a specified period of time. With lots of options and sizes available, feel free to drop by The Wardrobe’s closet on the second floor of Barnes anytime to check it out! You can also complete an online rental request a couple days in advance, and then pick it up.

Finally, if you ever need a quiet space to conduct an upcoming interview, you can reserve an interview room at Barnes Hall any time during business hours. No need to stress, you'll have a guaranteed spot for your interview!
